Narwhal Dining Room
The Narwhal Dining Room is world famous from one end of Pond Inlet to the other for its authentic production of all the traditional Arctic delicacies. Our chef, Nancy, and her colorful staff take great pride in preparing for our guests a liberating journey through the intricacies of Northern cuisine. Below you will find a few of the reasons why our guests come back again and again.
Narwhal Special
December is a month of total darkness in the arctic. During this period we make available to
our guests dishes that make up the diet of a Narwhal. (You didn't think that we were gong to
kill a narwhal did you?). This combo-plate of Arctic Cod, Greenland Halibut, Squid and Shrimp
is served raw and is eaten with the aid of an Ulu, the traditional Inuit knife. When wrapped
in seaweed and sticky rice it is a big seller with our Japanese guests.
Spring Special
As the light begins to return and the frost thins on the windows, dining room guests are
treated to the antics of bright colored seals of all sorts frolicking around the seal feeder.
What a heart-warming treat to watch baby seals vying for a spot at the feeder, and showing
off for their mothers by overfilling their mouths with fish.
To keep the pesky polar bears from squirreling in and
stealing all the seal food, we have opened a bear feeder under the ice at a safe distance
from our lower-level viewing window (see picture at left). Guests wishing to pet or hand feed
the bears may make arrangements at the front desk. Lefty Petersen our one armed bear charmer
personally conducts each petting session. There is a small extra charge per participant to
cover Lefty's expenses.
Standard Fare:
- Pond Pizza - with a choice of 10 different toppings. (We Choose)
- Captain Skyliner Fish & Chips - flown in frozen, from Halifax, fresh daily.
- The Elk and Caribou Burger's - are somewhat of a Dining Room specialty. Nancy cooks up one of each and if the customer can tell which is which, they only have to pay for one. (Please no coaching or sharing of orders.)
- Northern Delight - could be fish, could be something else. It depends upon what Nancy's brothers bring in. Don't worry - Nancy makes everything taste good.
